In January 2009 came into force a new Regulation of the European Parliament and Council Regulation (EC). 1272/2008 of 16 December 2008 on classification, labeling and packaging of substances and mixtures, called. CLP (Classification, Packaging and Labelling).

CLP applied terminology, evaluation principles and criteria of the Globally Harmonised System (GHS) and also includes provisions regarding the classification and labeling in the European Parliament and Council. 1907/2006 (REACH).
Like the previous legislation and the CLP is planned as a separate classification system designed primarily for business and industry. This regulation, after the entry into force, it also specifies deadlines for classification under the rules of the CLP:

  • classification of substances deadline in 30 November 2010
  • classification of mixtures deadline in 31 May 2015.

In those terms remain in effect to Directive 67/548/EEC and 1999/45/EC, which will be repealed on 1 June 2015.

Entry into force of the CLP to request updates to Annex II of the REACH Regulation, which describes all the conditions for the development of SDS. These changes are outlined in Commission Regulation EU no. 453/2010 of 20 May 2010 amending Regulation of the European Parliament and Council Regulation (EC). 1907/2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH).
